Weekend Preview

by Adam - August 20th, 2009. Filed under: Premier League.

Football just makes the world go round, we are nearing the second weekend of the Premier League and some of the teams third matches of the season.

Midweek saw a real surprise in Burnley beating Manchester United, Tottenham destroyed Hull and Liverpool got off the mark with a blistering performance against Stoke.

Arsenal vs Portsmouth

Arsenal have started the season strongly with a 6-1 win at Everton and a Champions League qualifing round win against Celtic.

Portsmouth aren’t doing much upfront and are in uncertainty over their future. Arsenal’s strength in attack will see them through this.

2-0

Birmingham vs Stoke
Birminham did well on their return to the Premier League causing Manchester United some problems and I can see them causing Stoke some too.

However I feel Stoke will be too strong and will want to come back after the drumming they got at Liverpool.

0-1

Hull vs Bolton
Hull got destroyed by Tottenham and didn’t look too convincing at the back but they did create problems going forward.

Bolton are not the best defensively and I think that this could be the first Premier League came to be a draw.

0-0

Manchester City vs Wolves
Big spenders City looked good against Blackburn at the weekend and beat Barcelona in a friendly in midweek, confidence will be high and they have immense attacking talent.

Wolves had to hang on against Wigan at midweek but they will be oozing confidence after that win.

2-1

Sunderland vs Blackburn
Sunderland’s Darren Bent is looking in fine form and Sunderland defended well for 45 minutes against Chelsea.

Blackburn have strengthened their defense and I expect this match to be close, Sunderland edging it.

1-0

Wigan vs Manchester United
Both sides lost in midweek and will be wanting to bounce back.

Wigan looked good against Villa last weekend and will be wanting a performance like that.

United normally take a while to build up speed but I do expect them to win.

1-2

West Ham vs Tottenham
A London derby at Upton Park.

West Ham started well against Wolves but Tottenham have enjoyed the better start and are sitting top of the league right now. Jermaine Defoe is on fire and Palacios is looking top quality.

I think these two sides will no be seperated on Sunday.

1-1

Burnley vs Everton
Burnley beat the Champions and their confidence will be sky high after such a great performance and result.

Everton lost their opener in disastrous style going down 6-1 at home to Arsenal. However, Everton did look good in their Europa League qualifier, without Joleon Lescott.

I have a feeling that Burnley will do it again.

1-0

Fulham vs Chelsea
Another London derby and I think these two will not be seperated either.

Chelsea have looked good in both matches despite going a goal down in both.

Fulham have strengthened their squad signing Damien Duff and Jonathan Greening soon to be arriving. Andy Johnson has dislocated his shoulder though.

2-2

Aston Villa vs Liverpool
Villa’s campaign has started poorly. Going down 2-0 at home to the latics and lost their Europa league qualifier against Rapid Vienna, I expect a better performance this time around, though.

Liverpool have had one dreadful performance and one sensational one, who knows what Liverpool will turn up but I think they will come away with atleast a point, most likely 3.

1-2
