Benitez: Babel needs to improve

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has said to Babel that he is now fighthing for his place at Anfield.

Following his move to Anfield Babel hasn’t really shown what he is capable of and many of the fans are doubting his ability.

The dutch winger joined Liverpool from Ajax in 2007 for a fee believed to be about 12m.

Babel has now had two years to adapt to English football. He started against Tottenham at the weekend but didn’t do anything to help Liverpool and they may aswell have been playing with 10 men.

Babel did play against England in the recent friendly and he looked dangerous then so maybe with more games he will get better. Benitez is certainly hoping this is the case and said that he will get a lot of games.

“Ryan has to give something to us this time and he knows it,” said Benitez.

“He will have opportunities to prove himself with so many games coming up, but it is important he has the right mentality.”

“Maybe there were some problems adapting to a new style when he arrived as a young player.

“He knows what is going on here now and hopefully can perform better. He accepts he has to perform at a different level this year.”
